Dear Daisy Dog

My dog is undergoing treatment for a problem my veterinarian thinks was caused by contaminated food. I’ve already contacted the manufacturer, but I also want to report this to the authorities. How do I do that?

Daisy Responds

Report problems with animal foods, drugs and devices to the Food and Drug Administration. For instructions, visit FDA’s Web site at www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm095859.htm.

There you’ll learn how to report pet food problems to your state’s FDA Consumer Complaint Coordinator.

Problems with animal drugs or devices are reported to 888-FDA-VETS (888-332-8387.)

Retain your dog’s food containers so you can provide the product codes, lot numbers and dates to the FDA.

Best wishes for your dog’s full recovery.
