Dear Daisy Dog

Mimi, my 17-year-old dog, has severe cataracts that have blinded her. For many reasons, surgery is not an option. Would homeopathy be effective?

Daisy Responds

I checked with several holistic veterinarians who practice homeopathy and other complimentary medical modalities. These experts told me that once cataracts are as mature as Mimi’s, homeopathic treatment will not restore vision. Only surgery is effective.

Cataracts are opacities in the lens of the eye. They block the light before it reaches the retina, preventing the dog from seeing clearly -– and sometimes causing blindness.

Fortunately, we dogs are quite resilient. When we lose vision gradually, as Mimi did, most of us adjust and do quite well.

We accept life as it is, without feeling sorry for ourselves. I think we have a lot to teach you humans.
