Dear Christopher Cat
Last year, I fed a few stray cats in my neighborhood -– and now 14 of them claim my house and yard as their own. They all need to be sterilized, and I’d like to have it done through a low-cost spay/neuter program. How can I find one in my area?
Kudos to you for recognizing the importance of spaying and neutering. Sterilizing your cats will keep them healthier and make them less likely to yowl, spray and fight.
To find a low-cost spay/neuter program near you, check first with your regular veterinarian. Some participate but don’t advertise their involvement.
Also contact your local animal shelter, cat rescue or feral cat organization.
Another resource is the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Visit their Web site at www.aspcapro.org/spay-neuter/database/ and type in your zip code. The database will give you the names of low-cost sterilization programs in your area.
