Dear Christopher Cat

Because of severe back trouble, I no longer am able to scoop my cat’s litter box. Please tell me there’s an alternative for those of us who love cats but are physically challenged.

Christopher Responds

One cat in my extended family used the toilet instead of a litter box.

I would never perch on a toilet seat, because I’m afraid I’d fall in.

If your cat shares my fear, you might look into the CatGenie, a self-cleaning litter box.

Once it’s hooked up to a cold water supply, a drain and an electrical outlet in your bathroom or laundry room, it takes care of everything.

After your cat uses the box, the solid material is scooped, liquified and sent down the drain.

The cat urine flows through washable granules, which the machine scrubs, sanitizes and then dries with a hot-air blower.

The entire cleaning and drying process takes less than 30 minutes.
