Dear Christopher Cat

My name is Cee Cee, and I am a 17-year-old cat. Last month, while my caretaker was on vacation, a car killed my sibling Kay Cee, with whom I was very close. Since then, my caretaker has been very sad about Kay Cee and quite worried about me.

Please explain to my caretaker how this has affected me emotionally and what she can do to help me feel better.

Christopher Responds

Each of us is an individual, and each of our relationships is unique. So, dear human, it is impossible for me to describe how Cee Cee feels about Kay Cee’s death.

Some of us cats grieve a long time, eating very little and socializing even less.

Others of us believe we will meet our loved ones again at Rainbow Bridge. We try to live in the present, grateful for each day we share with our family members – even the dogs.

My advice is to cuddle up with Cee Cee in an overstuffed chair. Ask her what she wants – special food, a silly toy, a new cat friend.

Then quiet your mind, open your heart ... and listen.
