Dear Christopher Cat

Our cat is losing the hair between his eyes and his ears.  He's not scratching, but his hair is very thin.  What can we do?

Christopher Responds

Have your cat checked by your veterinarian.  A number of illnesses can cause hair loss, and you wouldn't want to ignore a problem if he has one.  For example, ringworm, which is a fungal infection of the skin, can cause hair loss and is transmissible to other cats as well as dogs and humans.

If your veterinarian says your cat is healthy, then there's nothing you can do about the hair loss.  This pattern of baldness occurs in some cats, just as it does in some humans!
